“Gleeson and Cheadle are a pair of sharply matched pros who pour their heart into a narrow range of riffs and mannerisms that take the place of character and thought.” – New Yorker

“Rudely funny and faintly melancholic… screenwriter John Michael McDonagh’s directorial debut is a stylish lark whose many disparate elements somehow manage to go down as smoothly as Guinness.” – Variety

“A laugh-out-loud comedy as hard as “The French Connection,” a modern spaghetti Western on the windswept wastes of Ireland.” – Orlando Sentinel

Synopsis

This Irish comedic noir stars Brendan Gleeson and Don Cheadle as an unlikely duo of policemen who take on an international drug smuggling gang. Gleeson plays an unorthodox, eccentric Irish police sergeant named Boyle, while Cheadle plays a privileged, straight-laced American FBI agent named Everett. The two must work together when Boyle’s sprawling rural county becomes key to the drug trafficking investigation. Boyle, with his crass personality and subversive humor, puts aside his mocking of Everett, who initially underestimates Boyle and the provincial townspeople. As the drug traffickers they’re attempting to find try to buy him off, as they have every other member of the local police force, Boyle ditches his maverick attitude and re-examines his own murky moral code, joining Everett in the hunt.
