Synopsis

This American independent comedy, starring Academy Award-nominated actor John C. Reilly, was a fan favorite at the 2011 Sundance Film Festival. Reilly plays an over-talkative but well-meaning vice principal who reaches out to an oversized teen misfit, played by acting newcomer Jacob Wysocki. The movie, inspired by the short stories of novelist Patrick deWitt, follows the teen as he is mercilessly teased by his peers and school authorities alike. He is surprised when his vice principal – himself a clumsy loner – takes an interest in him. The teen then befriends an unlikely pair of fellow misfits in an unexpected, imperfect effort to survive the unforgiving high school hierarchy. The movie’s editor, former Fresno Film Festival judge Darrin Navarro, will lead a Q&A discussion with visiting filmmakers after the 5:30 p.m. screening.
