Friday, April 18

Appearing with the short film LIGHT YEARS

Richard Martin

Director and co-writer

Martin holds an MFA in directing and cinematography from USC.

Josh Calvert

Co-writer

Born and raised in Orange County, Calvert began honing his craft at an early age, aided by an overactive imagination.

Melissa Lee

Producer

Born in Texas to Chinese and Burmese parents, raised in Hong Kong and England, and schooled in Boston, Lee is a recent MFA graduate from USC’s Peter Stark Producing Program.

LIGHT YEARS has screened at the Asian Pacific Film Festival in Los Angeles, the Indianapolis International Film Festival, the Rincon International Film Festival in Puerto Rico, the Lake Arrowhead Film Festival, the Da Vinci Film Festival in Oregon, and the Beverly Hills Shorts Film Festival.

Saturday, April 19

Appearing with the short film LULLABY

Kevin Markwick

Director

Markwick has spent much of the last 25 years an exhibitor, owning and running one of the UK’s most successful independent cinemas, The Picture House, in Uckfield, East Sussex.

LULLABY has screened at the Bradford International Film Festival, the Atlanta Film Festival, and the Miami International Short Film Festival.

Rain Breaw

Director and writer

Breaw holds an MFA from the USC School of Cinematic Arts.

Akkara Srauy

Production designer

Srauy, who grew up in Fresno, holds an MFA in film and television production from USC.

UNDERPASS has screened at the Platforma Video7 International Film Festival in Greece, the Arpa International Film Festival in Los Angeles, the San Diego Asian Film Festival, and the Big Bear Lake Film Festival.

Betty Lee Kim

Director

Kim holds an MFA in filmmaking from USC.

YASIN has screened at the Berlin International Film Festival, the Dubai International Film Festival, the Palm Springs International Film Festival, the San Francisco International Asian American Film Festival, the Asian American International Film Festival in New York, and the Chicago International Children’s Festival, among others.

Singeli Agnew

Co-director

Agnew holds a master’s degree in documentary filmmaking from UC Berkeley’s Graduate School of Journalism.

Joshua Fisher

Co-director

Fisher holds a master’s degree in documentary filmmaking from UC Berkeley’s Graduate School of Journalism.

POLLEN NATION has screened at the Mill Valley Film Festival, the Taos Mountain Film Festival in New Mexico, the Ojai Film Festival, the Montana CINE International festival, and the Kern Projections Film Festival in Bakersfield, Calif.

Thavisouk Phrasavath

Co-director and subject

Phrasavath is a creative consultant for Lao TV and holds an electrical engineering degree from Pratt Institute in New York City.

Blong Xiong

Introduction

Xiong is the president of the Fresno City Council. He represents District 1, which includes the Tower District.

THE BETRAYAL (NERAKHOON) was nominated for the Grand Jury Prize at the 2008 Sundance Film Festival and has screened at the Berlin International Film Festival.

Sunday, April 20

Appearing with the short film PARACHUTE

Damian Acevedo

Cinematographer

Acevedo, who grew up in Fresno, holds a degree in film studies from San Francisco State. He won an International Guild of Cinematographer’s award for his work on the short film THE FOURTH, which screened at the 2007 Fresno Film Festival.

PARACHUTE will premiere at the Phoenix Film Festival in early April. The Fresno Film Festival will be the film’s second screening.

Darrin Navarro

Film editor

Navarro has edited dozens of Hollywood films. His credits include the independent drama HATE CRIME, the thriller BUG, and the comedy SENIOR SKIP DAY, to be released later this year.

WAITING ON FOUNTAIN will premiere at the Fresno Film Festival.

Tyrone HuFF

Director and writer

HuFF holds an MFA in film directing from the Dodge College Conservatory of Film and Media Arts at Chapman University in Los Angeles. He is an alumnus of Fresno State.

CHILES has screened at the Victoria Film Festival, the San Luis Obispo International Film Festival, the International Family Film Festival, the Lake Arrow Head film festival and the New Port Beach Film festival, among others.

Teresa Flores

Director

Flores will graduate from Fresno State this spring with a bachelor’s degree in art, with an emphasis in drawing and painting. Her first short film, JOY, screened at the 2007 Fresno Film Festival.

Dixie Salazar

Narrator

Salazar holds an MFA from Columbia University and is a visual artist involved in Fresno activist work. She teaches at Fresno State, has published three poetry collections and a novel, and has a studio in Fresno at 654 Van Ness.

HOTEL FRESNO will premiere at the Fresno Film Festival.

David Sauvage

Director and producer

Sauvage is a graduate of Columbia University and has written and produced several plays and short films.

Carissa Phelps

Phelps holds master’s degrees in law and business from UCLA.
